5 VMAs Makeup Looks You Should Recreate This Spring

Here at RY, we love a good awards show, and the VMAs are no exception. The Video Music Awards, held yearly in the US, celebrate some of the biggest and brightest stars in the music industry with a healthy dose of competition and a little drama thrown in (hey, Taylor Swift--we're looking at you). They also provide a chance for your favourite celebrities to dress up and try edgy, out of the box looks.
Michael’s little girl is all grown up and she’s rockin’ some seriously gorgeous makeup. With a forest green shadow smoked under her eyes and a peachy-nude on the lid, Paris’s blue eyes pop to perfection. Add in flawless skin, a subtle brow and sweet pink lip gloss and we’ve certainly got a winner with this one. Recreate Paris’s VMAs look this September by jumping on-board the coloured under eye shadow trend. Pick a shade that’ll complement your eye colour, whether that’s a jewel-tone like purple or green, or something more dramatic like red or even neon yellow.
Nothing says Hollywood glam more than a dark, vampy lip. Olivia Munn’s dramatic crimson pout, paired with rosy cheeks and neutral eyes, is definitely one of this year’s standout VMA makeup looks. The contrast between her pink blush and deep red lips gives the look an edgy contrast that we didn’t expect from this starlet. Bring the dark lip trend out of winter and into the spring season by pairing it with a pink or peachy blush and a warm eye. For something a little more warm weather-friendly, lighten up your lip shade, or even blot a little for more of a lip stain feel.
Hailee is only young, but she’s definitely not a newcomer to fashion-forward red carpet looks--we all remember that edgy fringed bun and smoky eye combo from a little while back. This year, she’s pared things back with an ultra-nude lip and satin skin, but the real show-stealer are her eyes. With a sleek, swooping wing and fluttery lashes that extend the outer corner, Hailee’s almond eyes take on an elongated look. Give your go-to look a spring shakeup by stripping it all down and focusing on one area of the face, just like Hailee’s MUA has done with her eyes. A bold wing is sure to be a hit all year ‘round, so grab your favourite liner and get to practicing! Pop on a pair of lashes that are longer and more voluminous towards the outer edge and you’ll be Hailee’s doppelgänger.
Throw it back a few years and red tones around the eyes were totally taboo, and even in 2017, they’re a rare sight. But, Vanessa Hudgens is the captain of ‘things you thought wouldn’t work but totally do’--leave it to the Disney alum to try out bold, new looks on the red carpet and pull them off with ease. This glittery red liner look is definitely a hit, perfectly accentuating the red in her dress and adding some much-appreciated sparkle. Paired with a super-fresh face and minimal, nude lipstick, her eyes are front and centre. Imitate Vanessa's look by grabbing the glitter and sprinkling it over everything you do this spring! Well, maybe not everything--but your makeup is a great place to start. Use a liquid lipstick or coloured liquid liner, then apply a dab of eyelash glue and layer on the sparkles with a loose glitter or shimmery pigment.
Hailey knows how to do beauty, with a collab with ModelCo and tons of gorgeous red carpet looks under her belt that we’ve certainly filed away as inspiration. The VMAs saw the supermodel go for a pink-toned look, playing up her full lips with an almost peachy shade. Add in well groomed brows, a glam lash and subtle contouring and Hailey has truly achieved a stunning makeup look reminiscent of old Hollywood starlets. Get Hailey's look by emphasising the lips with a pop of pink, making them the focus of your face. Use neutral shadows around the eyes, then brushing a little shimmer onto the lid for a light dusting of glam. This look is a go-to for spring as it's soft, pretty and works both day and night!
